Mini Chocolate Donut Spiders

This snack is quick and effortless, it only requires buying the ingredients and assembling them to make spider shapes. No baking, no cooking and no risk, so the kids can join in as well! If you find problems buying ready-made candy eyeballs, try making them homemade! The following recipe makes googly eyes that are perfect for Halloween-inspired treats. They can be also made vegan.

Prep Time 15 minutes
Serves: 8
Difficulty Level: Low
Ingredients for edible googly eyes:
Powdered sugar - 1 cup
Cornstarch - 1 tsp.
Corn syrup - 1 tbsp.
1% milk - 1 tsp. (vegan mils also works)
Vanilla Extract - 1/4 tsp.
Chocolate chips - as needed (vegan works as well)
Ingredients for spiders:
Icing sugar - as needed (black is best)
Salty pretzel - as needed
Method of preparing the edible googly eyes:
  1. Combine the powdered sugar and cornstarch and whisk them together. Add the rest of the ingredients, except for the chocolate chips.
  2. Place the mixture into a piping bag or Ziploc bag and squeeze out small dots onto a baking sheet lined with wax paper.
  3. Top the middle of each dot with a chocolate chip, not long after you pipe it. Give the googly eyes at least 24 hours to set before using them.
Method of preparing the spiders:
  1. As the DIY googly eyes take 24 hours to set, you can also buy ready-made. In this case, your snack will be ready in less than 10 minutes! To start, cut off the pretzels to make the spider legs.
  2. Poke them into the donuts, glue on the edible googly eyes with some black icing, and serve!
Chef's Tip:
Make sure to take 24 hours in advance to let you DIY edible googly eyes set!
